Lakeside XC has strong day at Mena

MENA -- Lakeside took top honors at three of the four cross country races at the Tom Stuthard Stampede, hosted by Acorn High School last week.

The two high school and the junior girls teams won their respective races with the junior boys trailing by just 33 points for second place to Heavener.

Seventh-grader Richard Lance was the top finisher for the junior Rams in fourth place. Classmate Luke Wrublusky was 10th, seventh-grader Mason Ritter 14th, eighth-grader Maddex Ritter 23rd and freshman Ian Murray 29th to round out the team's scoring.

"The junior boys team is very young," said Lakeside head coach Jeff Haynes. "Our top three runners are seventh-graders, but they are fast seventh-graders."

Jessieville seventh-grader Tristen Rodgers was fifth overall.

In the junior girls race, Lakeside eighth-graders Maya Hubbard and Annabel Sarver took first and second with Hubbard crossing the finish line in 10:41.30. Classmates Hope Webb (fifth) and Adalie Hall (11th) and seventh-grader Ava Riggin (14th) rounded out the scoring for the junior Lady Rams.

Lakeside tallied 28 points for the win with Barton Junior High finishing second with 53.

"The junior girls had a great day," Haynes said. "The team was lead by one of the best one-two punches in the state -- Maya Hubbard and Annabel Sarver. The only race on the course the first two meets have been between these two."

Mount Ida freshman Peyton Macejewski was eighth overall, and Centerpoint eighth-grader Bethany Massey was 20th. Jessieville eighth-grader Kennedi Scrivner was 25th, and seventh-grader Karstyn Scrivner was 41st.

In the varsity girls race, Lakeside freshman Witley Terry crossed the line first (20:31.90) with Class 3A defending state champion Juliah Rodgers, a sophomore from Jessieville, following close behind in second place. Lakeside won the event with a low score of 19 while Waldron finished second with 63 points.

Lakeside senior Natalie Jennings had a season best 21:48.40 for third overall with sophomores Molly Fortin and Elizabeth Chipps taking fifth and sixth, respectively. Freshamn Ivey James rounded out Lakeside's scoring.

"The varsity girls continue to dominate the course," Haynes said. "Whitley Terry continues to lead the team. ... The team had a season low 19 points.

Jessieville junior Keelee King was 18th with sophomore Megan Brown finishing 19th overall.

Lakeside junior Dylan Dew won the varsity boys race with a time of 16:56.20. Senior Caleb Wrublusky (fourth), junior Hunter Dorathy (fifth), junior Barrett James (ninth) and sophomore Levi Dugger (11th) rounded out the team's top five. The Rams put up 26 points for the win with DeQueen taking second with 73 and Jessieville sixth with 148.

Junior Noah Zetts led the Lions with a 10th-place finish while classmates Lawson Wideman (12th), Kaden Rogers (40th), Nicholas Waggoner (56th) and Ben Combs (74th) rounded out the scoring.

Lakeside and Centerpoint travel to Nashville for the Scrapper Invitational on Tuesday. Jessieville will travel to Salem for the Salem Invitational on Tuesday.

Lady Cobras take

three road wins

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- The Lady Cobras moved to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play this week after sweeping Baptist Prep on Monday, Camden Fairview on Tuesday and Magnolia on Thursday, all on the road.

The Lady Cobras took wins of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-16 against Baptist Prep Monday. Carena Bledsoe led the team with 13 service points, including six aces, 17 digs and a block. Patience Campbell had seven kills, eight service points, two aces and a block, Landry Cate had nine kills, eight digs and seven service points and setter Sophie Skinner finished with seven service points, two blocks, four digs and 26 assists.

Fountain Lake won over Camden Fairview, 25-13, 25-13, 25-6.

The team then took wins of 25-9, 25-7 and 25-15 over Magnolia on Thursday. Skinner finished with 30 assists, 13 service points and four digs. Campbell had 11 service points, eight kills and nine digs.

Fountain Lake travels to Bauxite on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Lady Trojans dominate White Hall at home

Hot Springs bounced back from Tuesday's loss and refused to drop a single set against White Hall at Trojan Arena.

The Lady Trojans (6-2, 3-1) won, 25-16, 5-11, and 25-8.

Senior Jurnee Hicks led the Lady Trojans with 21 kills, five blocks and 11 assists. Junior Marlissa Archie tallied 11 kills, six blocks and 14 assists and senior Jaylia Reed finished with nine kills.

Hot Springs hosts Sheridan at Trojan Arena Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
