COVID-19 update: County cases up, along with seven-day average

The following stats were posted Thursday on the Arkansas Department of Health website:

• 76,676 cumulative confirmed cases, up 1,030 from Wednesday.

• 723.14 rolling seven-day average of new confirmed cases, up 20.96 from Wednesday.

• 917,413 PCR test reports, up 10,466 from Wednesday.

• 8.4% cumulative PCR infection rate, no change from Wednesday.

• 2,373 cumulative probable cases, up 56 from Wednesday.

• 23.5% cumulative antigen infection rate, down from 26.5% Wednesday.

• 7,061 confirmed and probable cases, up 284 from Wednesday.

• 70,737 recoveries of confirmed and probable cases, up 785 from Wednesday.

• 457 hospitalizations, down 11 from Wednesday.

• 1,097 confirmed deaths, up 17 from Wednesday.

• 149 probable deaths, no change from Wednesday.

• 97 cases on a ventilator, up seven from Wednesday.

• 1,805 cumulative confirmed cases in Garland County, up 29 from Wednesday.

• 17.86 rolling seven-day average of new confirmed cases, up 0.86 from Wednesday.

• 29,343 PCR and antigen test reports, up 807 from Wednesday.

• 24,005 private lab reports, up 204 from Wednesday.

• 5,338 public lab reports, up 603 from Wednesday.

• 169 active confirmed cases in Garland County, up 18 from Wednesday.

• 1,591 recoveries of confirmed cases in Garland County, up 10 from Wednesday.

• 45 confirmed deaths in Garland County, up one from Wednesday.

• Five probable deaths in Garland County, no change from Wednesday.

The 29 new confirmed cases reported Thursday in Garland County were the most since Aug. 12, raising the rolling seven-day average of new cases to its highest point in more than five weeks.

The 25 new confirmed cases reported Wednesday were the most since Sept. 11. Wednesday and Thursday's new cases raised the number of active confirmed cases in the county to 169, the highest number since Aug. 22.

The 1,030 new confirmed cases reported statewide Thursday were the third-highest daily total since the pandemic began and the fifth time new cases surpassed 1,000. Thursday's count raised the moving seven-day average of new confirmed cases to its highest point in more than six weeks.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson released the following statement on Thursday's case numbers.

"Today's report of 1,030 new PCR positive COVID-19 cases serves as a caution to everyone who is out and about engaging in work, school, and recreation. We need to take responsibility, and we need to support the need for isolation or quarantine when required. We have limited tools to stop the spread, and our self-isolation when needed and our social distancing will be successful if we all do our part."

The Lake Hamilton and Hot Springs school districts were on the list of districts with five or more active student and staff cases the Health Department updated Thursday. Ten cases were listed for Lake Hamilton, up from the seven shown on Monday's report. Seven were listed for Hot Springs, up from the five on Monday's report.

The number of active student and staff cases in public schools fell from the 748 reported Monday to 742 Thursday.

Thirty cases were listed for Ouachita Baptist University, up from the 25 on Monday's report. Henderson State University has 12 cases, down from the 15 on Monday's report.
