SENIOR SCENE: It's OK to admit you need some help

OPINION

My life has forever changed!

Once again the Senior Scene is due and having been through so much in the past five years, I am going to write this from the heart. For those of you taking care of your aging parents or anyone for that matter, I have all the respect in the world for. I, on the other hand, could not do it.

For those of you who read my stories regularly and know who I am you know why. I wanted to be there for my parents and be able to visit and just plain love on them. I did not want to be the caregiver as I was not equipped to handle their day to day needs and I knew it would change the dynamics and I couldn't do that. I was lucky enough to have both of my parents for 64 years but when I lost my mother in December it devastated me and then, five months later, to lose my father was beyond comprehension. I guess I am sharing this with you because it is OK to admit you need some help caring for an aging parent or a loved one ... it took me a while to accept that as well, but once I got caregivers lined up that I loved and trusted we were good to go. I never missed a chance to FaceTime, go visit or call the caregiver daily to see what was going on. I always met them at the doctor's office and spent as much time as I could with them from a daughter's perspective and for that I will forever be grateful.

My life has forever changed due to the loss of both my parents but I am ever so glad I chose the path to let professionals care for them on a daily basis so I never lost that spark when I walked in the door, from both who knew I was their daughter and they were so happy to see me.

If you think you are ever ready to need some help, please feel free to call the office 501-623-7767 and visit with me. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Superior Senior Care is a locally owned business with 22 offices in the state and I am proud to say my Dad (Joe Pascual and one of my dear friends, Rita Hurst) started the company in 1985. Have a blessed day.
