SENIOR SCENE: Sharing and caring

OPINION

Long-term planning will continue to be a part of the day to day preparations due to COVID-19, for food, medicines, utilities, etc. Resources are limited and spread out between various entities. Keeping knowledge of who, what, when, and where will be a necessity in an ever-changing landscape. This has always been the case, however, resources deplete quickly, so planning is key.

Jackson House keeps an up to date listing of local resources to share with others. The information is kept in a format that can be mailed, emailed or included with any visit. Checking the Facebook page, Eleanor Klugh Jackson House, is another great way to see listed items for immediate disbursement. Jackson House provides many services as well with the priority being food, clothing and other basic items. We don't list them all as they change and we make efforts to provide for individual needs that vary person to person.

Recently a family of six, including grandparents, was in desperate need of food and toiletries. They had no transportation and lived outside of the city, therefore, no access to public transportation either, with two vulnerable persons to COVID-19 complications. Jackson House was able to provide no-contact delivery of groceries and other items to the family safely. Additionally, information of other local resources and services were included. Our ability to do this is directly related to donations by our community.

Needs, great and small, are met daily at Jackson House. Donations and volunteers are needed to carry on our mission to be the place that you can "Care and be Cared For," on the front lines, without cutting back or stopping during this crisis. We can be reached at 501-623-4048, at 705 Malvern Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901, or by visiting http://www.jacksonhouse.org. Be a part of the solution. We need you! And we can help you!
