Garland County Master Gardeners has selected the home of Joe and Martha Dooley on Starboard Circle as its Yard of the Month for April.

The monthly recognitions are given from April to October.

"When you first see the lovely red brick home you notice the Weeping Yaupon trees on either side of the home, then Holly bushes under planted with Hydrangea bushes then a flash of yellow daffodils," a news release said.

The Dooley home has had "vast improvements" since they purchased it in 2011. "They have added a rose garden to the front yard with birdbaths, even a few birdhouses, Jonquils for early color, Bee Balm, Daylilies, fennel, yarrow, sage, swamp sunflowers, porter weed, clematis growing on tresses," the release said.

"Pink Drift roses and white Candy Tuff anchor the brick mailbox. As you enter the oak tree-shaded backyard you are met with Oak leaf Hydrangea, iris, wood fern, Mahonia bushes, hosta, Japanese Maples, hellebore in full bloom, sweet-smelling Hyacinth, Japanese painted ferns, peonies just peeking out of the ground, Cora bells, and Leopard plants, and assorted bird feeders. The hummingbirds greeted us as we stepped on the large two-tier deck that overlooks the grill area that is surrounded by this shaded garden area. Several St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the environment and animals plus those little playful Gnomes add a bit of whimsy and make you smile. Martha has even managed to tuck away a potting area and a nursery bed for propagation," the release said.

"Thank you to the Dooley family for helping make our neighborhoods a beautiful place for plants and our feathered friends."
