U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, R-District 4, recognized the work of the Ms. Senior America Pageant in a statement on the House floor on March 11.
"The Ms. Senior America Pageant seeks to improve the lives of seniors and those around them by advocating for personal growth by continuing higher education and community service," Westerman said, according to a news release from the pageant.
"Thanking the reigning Ms. Arkansas Senior America, Sharon Morgan Tahaney of El Dorado, Congressman Westerman said she has represented Arkansas with grace," the release said.
He also noted the efforts of pageant administrator Patricia Genovese of Hot Springs to "expand this year's competition in hopes of providing a larger platform for senior ladies to share their wisdom, experience and knowledge," it said.
Westerman also commended the work of the Ms. Senior America organization and its leaders, saying, "It is my hope that our nation will derive from them a beautiful example of perseverance, hard work and service."

The deadline to apply for this year's event is May 15. Women between the ages of 60-85 are encouraged to apply.
