Garland County Master Gardeners names scholarship recipients

The Garland County Master Gardeners Scholarship Committee recently announced the Gene Lichliter Memorial Scholarship recipients for 2021-22.

The recipients were ranked based on their majors, GPA, choice of courses, essays and outside activities. The scholarship recipients were recognized at the July 15 Master Gardeners meeting and their certificates were presented by Dorothy Lichliter.

Kaitlyn Hope was awarded $2,000. Hope attends the University of Arkansas, which she entered in the fall of 2019. She is enrolled in the Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food, Life Sciences as a Food Science major. Hope is an honors student who plans to work in the food production industry. She is a member of the University of Arkansas Razorback Marching Band, Wind Symphony, Honors College and a Bumpers College Ambassador.

Brad Fletcher was awarded $1,000. Fletcher attends Arkansas Tech, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. With his degree, he plans to work in the production of agriculture equipment, designing trucks or trailers to haul agriculture products. Fletcher won the Garland County 2020 4H Scholarship and while in high school had his own lawn service business and now comes home on the weekends and works at his church as well as summers at Crystal Springs Resort.

Jillian Robertson was awarded $1,000. Robertson is a repeat winner of the GCMC scholarships. She was awarded $650 last year as a college freshman. Robertson is attending Southern Arkansas University and her major is Plant and Animal Sciences through the Agriculture College. Her choice of courses includes numerous agriculture and horticulture studies. She plans on becoming a veterinarian. She has been studying on her own, using plant essentials oils in the care of the family animals. Robertson is a member of the SAU track team, SAU Choir and Leadership College.
