Library introduces monthly themed book club called 'Have Book, Will Travel'

Beginning in August, the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave., will host a new, themed monthly book club called "Have Book, Will Travel."

"Each month, the library will announce a new theme. Participants may choose to read any book as long as it relates to that month's theme. The group will gather on the first Saturday of the month to discuss their selections with the other attendees," a news release said.

"This club will focus on book discovery and discussion, as well as socializing between readers who share common interests. August's theme will be True Crime."

The August club meeting will take place at the library on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

"Participants can read and bring any true crime book to discuss, but for those who would like suggestions, a selection of Arkansas-based true crime titles is available on the library's events calendar," the release said.

Registration is required. Patrons can register for the August meeting by going to the library's website at http://www.gclibrary.com or by calling the library at 501-623-4161.

"In our experience, patrons who attend our book clubs seem to prefer to talk about overall themes and socialize with fellow readers rather than talk about just one book that someone else picked out for them," Paul Kagebein, Adult Programming coordinator, said in the release. "We are excited to offer a book club that better fits our patrons' interests."
