The Hot Springs Fire Department on Monday lifted the citywide burn ban that went into effect on Wednesday, July 28, due to dry conditions.

Residential burn permits can be obtained any day of the week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Commercial burn permits can be obtained from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Hot Springs residents can obtain burn permits at the Central Fire Station, 310 Broadway St., and the Lakeshore Fire Station, 220 Lakeshore Drive.

The residential burn permit is free, and may only be used as per the conditions on the permit, a news release said.

The permit must be obtained by the owner/occupant of the residential property where the burn will take place. Proof of ownership or occupancy must be verified by a driver's license or recent utility bill statement.

The commercial or second-party persons permit is $25, and may only be used as per the conditions on the permit. To obtain the permit, the individual must go to the fire marshal's office at the Central Fire Station, 310 Broadway. In some instances, the fire marshal may need to visually inspect the site or materials to be burned before issuing a permit, the release said.

At the time the burn ban was issued, Hot Springs was under a heat advisory, and the temperature reached 100 degrees at Hot Springs Memorial Field on Friday, July 30. It was the first time a 100-degree temperature had been recorded by the National Weather Service in Hot Springs since Sept. 8, 2019, according to a post on the Weather Service's Facebook page.
