Garland County Master Gardeners selected the home of Sam and Kim Vallery in Arborgate Subdivision as the August Yard of the Month.

"As you approach their home, a large red crape myrtle bush highlights the entrance to the driveway. The driveway is flanked on each side with a variety of boxwoods, holly bushes and various evergreens. A thick carpet of ground cover and a river rock walkway completes the entrance. The river rock walk extends from the street curving to the front of the house where you will see azaleas and shrubs against the front," a news release said.

Large colorful pots planted with various vibrant plants are placed throughout the landscape. The plantings include creeping jenny, coleus, caladium lantana, sweet potato vines, baby's breath, calibrachoa, and wandering Jew. "A garden bench is placed among some of the colorful planted pots and creates a restful atmosphere. Colorful impatient beds are places around the base of two large oak trees," it said.

Nominations for consideration for Yard of the Month winners are being accepted. Call either the Garland County Cooperative Extension Service Office at 623-6841 or Master Gardener Carolyn Davis at 525- 6449.
