Fountain Lake boys win by 31 strokes at Magellan

Fountain Lake's boys golf team took a 31-stroke win Monday at Magellan Golf Course in Hot Springs Village while the Lady Cobras fell to third.

The Cobras were led by medalist Kolt Carden with a low round of 39. Carson McCoy shot a 40, and Coil Brooks added 45 to round out the team score.

Nashville was second in the boys competition with a team card of 155, led by Jett Stephenson's 41. Mena was third with a 157 with Sean Sullivan leading the Bearcats with a 49.

The Lady Scrappers turned in a 133 to win the girls competition with Ellen Spigner earning medalist honors to lead the team. Emma Hines shot a 54 to lead the Lady Bearcats (171), and Sophie Skinner carded a 55 to lead Fountain Lake (184).

LADY LIONS TAKE PAIR OF WINS

Bismarck's girls golf team took wins Monday and Wednesday while the Lions had a win and a second-place finish.

On Monday, the Lady Lions shot a 143 at DeGray Lake Resort State Park Golf Course in Bismarck for the win with Poyen turning in a 143 for second and Cossatot River finishing with a 201 for third.

Hannah Collie led the Lady Lions with a 45 for medalist honors. Anna Cain and Erin Fendley earned runner-up medalist with rounds of 49, and Ellie Norris shot a 57. Jenna Payne shot a 60, and Samantha Collie had a 55.

The Lions shot a 134 for the win with Poyen (148) coming in second and Cossatot River (161) third.

Blake Smith shot a 42 to lead Bismarck for runner-up medalist honors. Braden Efird shot a 49, Riley Tuttle 43 and Wyatt Clement 50 for the team card. Nick Tucker shot a 52, and Gavin Urban had a 54.

On Wednesday, Bismarck's girls shot a 120 for the win at Glenwood Country Club while host Centerpoint finished second (167) and Cossatot River third (199).

Cain shot a low round of 38 for medalist honors while Hannah Collie earned runner-up medalist honors with a 39. Fendley shot a 43, Norris had a 53 and Payne finished with a 52.

The Knights took the win on their home course with a 121 with Bismarck finishing second with a 132 and the Eagles finished with a 152 for third.

Smith again earned runner-up medalist honors with a round of 40 with Tucker and Tuttle both turning in 46, Clement shot a 48 and Urban had 55.

HSU NAMES HALL OF HONOR CLASS

Henderson State University recently announced the 2021 class of the Reddie Hall of Honor, which will be inducted on Oct. 8 in the Garrison Center Grand Ballroom.

Nine Reddie greats will be inducted as part of the class with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. induction. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from Angie Bradshaw at 870-230-5161.

This year's class includes football legends Darius Davis and Johnny Gross, baseball stars Robert Gilbert and Curtis Thurston, softball record-holder Sarah Gipson, women's basketball standout Aungelique Sledge, and high school coaching icon C.W. Keopple.

HSU cross country and tennis coach Brenda Joiner will be receiving the Distinguished Service award, and former baseball player Cody Culp will be honored with the Willie Tate Meritorious Humanitarian Award.

ROGERS STATE PICKED

AS MEN'S SOCCER FAVORITE

Rogers State, the regular-season and tournament champion for the Spring 2021 season, received all six first-place votes to win the 2021 season by coaches in the Great American Conference/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The Hillcats won their second-straight title in the conference, finishing No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Fort Hays State was second, Northeastern State took third, and Southern Nazarene claimed fourth. Harding was picked fifth followed by Newman and Ouachita Baptist.

The regular season starts on Sept. 2. The GAC/MIAA Championships will be held Nov. 12 and 14 at the site of the regular-season champion and feature the top four teams.
