Pencil-based mentality

Why do some ink pens write better than others do? I have a cheap BIC pen that I have had for months and I write like a calligrapher with the thing. Every time I write something with it, I amaze myself with how good my handwriting looks.

On the other hand, I have a very nice, expensive pen that was given to me as a gift. When I try writing with that pen my handwriting looks like a cross between a 5-year-old and a serial killer. More often than not when I use that pen, I somehow get ink all over my hand. My writing looks like I wrote a ransom note and my hand looks as if I was captured by the police and just got fingerprinted.

I cannot explain why my handwriting improves so much with just the change of the writing instrument. However, wouldn't it be amazing if we could change other things by just changing what we use?

What if driving a 1975 Ford Granada made you the next Mario Andretti. Imagine you could perfectly parallel park in 15 seconds. You could make a three-hour road trip in a little under an hour and avoid every pothole like a vegan avoids beef.

Envision, if you will, pulling on an old ratty, coffee-stained T-shirt and immediately having the physique of The Rock. The strength, flexibility and quickness of a large human specimen would be magical to experience with just the addition of a simple cotton garment.

Finally, picture yourself popping on a free cap you picked up at the bait shop only to find you now had the mind of Einstein. Quantum physics is as simple as tying your shoes and it is all thanks to your bargain-basement bonnet.

We should all strive to find the ink pen that improves us. Of course, legend has it during the height of the space race in the 1960s, NASA scientists realized that pens could not function in space. Therefore, they spent years and millions of taxpayer dollars to develop a pen that could write in zero gravity. However, the Soviet Union faced the same problem and solved it by simply handing their cosmonauts pencils.

That says a lot. Maybe we should all adopt a more pencil-based mentality when it comes to life. Pencils have erasers for a reason. We can change our life and make it better if we choose to because mistakes happen but do not define us. However, just like a pencil, make sure your life has a point or it will be dull and difficult.
