GLENWOOD -- Howard W. Hawthorn, age 74, of Glenwood, passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021.

He was born Feb. 3, 1947, in Hot Springs, the son of Jerry Glenn Hawthorn and Susie Beatrice Taylor Hawthorn. On Nov. 4, 1999, he married LouElla Abernathy Rowton Hawthorn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 29 years, Shirley Bright Hawthorn; and three sisters, Velma Sanders, Martha Rodgers and Lois Baker.

Howard was a 1966 graduate of Hot Springs High School and was raised a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife for the past 22 years. He served as the current president of the Garland County Beekeepers Association, worked with Hives for Heroes and was a member of the Bonnerdale Volunteer Fire Department. He was the owner of Hawthorn Home Improvement, was the lead shop hand for Davis Portable Buildings and had previously worked as a butcher at Glenn Hawthorn's Meat Packers. Howard was a handyman and could do anything, including creating something from nothing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking and being a Papa. Howard had a giving heart, was a friend to all and always willing to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, LouElla Hawthorn of Glenwood; his sons, Wayne (Kari Ann) Hawthorn of Mount Ida, Chris (April) Hawthorn of Greeley, Colo.; his stepchildren, Scotty (Angel) Rowton of Okolona and Carrie (Ben) Palmer of Mill Creek, Ind.; his grandchildren, Glenn (Gail) Hawthorn, Morgan (Wade) Wilson, Megan (Joe) Barnello, Lucas Hawthorn, Emily Hawthorn, Johnny (Harlie) Rowton, Nicole (Kyle) Petty, Megan Rowton, Spencer Palmer, Emily Palmer, Heber Palmer, David Palmer, Rachel Palmer, Joseph Palmer and Benson Palmer; his great-grandchildren, James Petty, Morgan Petty, Blakelie Rowton and Wylla Rowton; his siblings, Jerry (Diane) Hawthorn of Lonsdale, George (Earlene) Hawthorn of Arkadelphia, Fred and (Cel) Hawthorn of Royal, Margie Golden (Bill) of Hot Springs and Pat Ramsey of Conway; many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home chapel, Glenwood, with Brother Gilbert Hawthorn, Brother Kimball Palmer, Brother Barry Craw and Brother Curtis Abernathy officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., until service time.

At the family's request, please wear a mask during the visitation and service.

Interment will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Hawthorn, Johnny Rowton, Chris Hawthorn, Wayne Hawthorn, Lucas Hawthorn and Scotty Rowton.
