Hot Springs Music Club President Jackie Flowers has announced that the organization will hold auditions for music scholarships on Saturday, April 17.
Applicants must be residents of Garland County who are majoring in music at an accredited college or high school seniors who have been accepted as music majors at an accredited college.
Auditions will be held at First United Methodist Church on Central Avenue beginning at 2 p.m. April 17 unless COVID-19 infection rates require a switch to electronic auditions, a news release said.
The deadline for submitting an application is Friday, March 19. Interested parties may obtain detailed information and an application form by emailing [email protected]
Since its formation in 1951, Hot Springs Music Club has been a member of the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
"In addition to the scholarships which promote excellence in music in the community, HSMC also sponsors a Junior Music Festival annually at which young participants perform and receive written feedback from a qualified judge," the release said.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the club periodically presented concerts of members' performances that were open to the public. Virtual concerts have been streamed to the HSMC website, which can still be accessed at http://www.hotspringsmusicclub.com. Music patrons may obtain information about membership on the website.
Since 2000, HSMC has awarded over $39,000 in music scholarships to local musicians, the release said.
The 2020 scholarship recipients were Colton Guill and Jacob Happy.
