SENIOR SCENE: Truly cold

OPINION

As I write this article, I am painfully aware of the misery being endured by people all across our county, our state, and our nation due to the cold. It has been one of those years that makes you sit up and pay attention for many reasons. One thing for certain, we are in this together, like it or not. Jackson House has not closed, not for the pandemic, not for the weather.

We forget what it is like to be really cold. We go from our houses to our cars to our destination. Many elderly, families, and others are unable to pay for heat. So many are also living in their cars, in tents and on the ground. It takes a community effort to prevent deaths by checking on each other and providing emergency services. We all need the same things: food, warmth items, toiletry items, heat, blankets, socks, hats, gloves and tarps.

Remember those in peril. Donate to agencies, knowing we work together to reach those in need. It takes all of us to make things happen quickly and decisively. It takes you to be the one taking action. Jackson House, where "Every Item, Every Dollar, Every Person, Counts." Donate to: 705 Malvern Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901.
