Cobras start slow, rout Bauxite

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- After a slow start, Fountain Lake rallied for a 14-10 lead at halftime en route to a 49-27 win over Bauxite Tuesday.

Bauxite took control in the first quarter for a 7-3 edge, but the Cobras (14-1, 4-0 4A-7) battled back to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game.

Colby Lambert led the Cobras with 11 points and Caleb Carter tallied 8 points. B. Brown paced Bauxite with 10 points and H. Ferrell finished with 9 points.

Fountain Lake (JB) 31, Bauxite 30

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Trailing 7-6 at the end of the first quarter on Tuesday, the junior Cobras energy picked up to secure the 17-13 lead at halftime. Bauxite outscored Fountain Lake 7-3 in the third quarter for 20-all, but Fountain Lake managed to take the narrow win with a deep buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Coil Burks to win the the matchup.

Burks paced the junior Cobras with 16 points while Dillon Dettmering tallied 11 points.

Bryant (8B) 50, Lake Hamilton 25

BRYANT -- Cameron Hale led the eighth grade boys with 9 points Thursday, and Cole McKinley finished with 6 points.

Fountain Lake (JG) 44, Poyen 19

POYEN -- Multiple playmakers led the junior Lady Cobras (11-3) to their win Thursday, outscoring the junior Lady Indians in each period.

Maintaining a 21-12 advantage at halftime, Poyen came close to keeping the hosts in sight, but the junior Lady Cobras put up 15 points in the final stanza while keeping the junior Lady Indians scoreless.

Paige Davis led offensively with 13 points. Eden East finished with 12 points, Macy Morgan tallied 8 points, Mary Drakes had 7 points, Nevaeh Baker had 3 points and Lainey Mungle added 1 point.

Hot Springs (JB) 47, Camden Fairview 22

Perry Jones put up 16 points to lead the junior Trojans over the junior Cardinals Thursday. Ladavion Willis followed with 12 points and Kendall Williams added 9 points.

Lake Hamilton (JB) 52, Bryant 40

BRYANT -- Ty Robinson led the junior Wolves with 29 points to rout Bryant Thursday.

Jalen Rader finished with 9 points, Cooper Kindt had 6 points and Easten Hurley and LaBraun Christon added 4 points apiece.

COLLEGE MEN

Bisons 89, Reddies 79

SEARCY -- Despite struggling with fouls for the majority of the game, the Bisons (2-0, 2-0 Great American Conference) defeated the Reddies (1-2, 1-2) Thursday at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Holding Henderson State to 39% shooting and only one 3-pointer, Harding managed to drain seven treys in the first half for a 45-36 lead. Harding continued to extend its lead early in the second half, but as the Bisons ran into foul trouble, Henderson managed to pull within 75-71 with 4:11 left in the game.

Refusing to back down, several Bisons continued to make plays with Romio Harvey planting five free throws in the last minute to secure the win.

Harvey paced Harding with 28 points and four rebounds, going 11 for 12 from the free throw line. Ramiro Santiago tallied 24 points and five boards, including five 3-pointers.

Raekwon Rogers led HSU with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Quawn Marshall finished with 14 points and three rebounds, Malik Riddle had 13 points and seven boards, Yuri Swinford had 11 points, and Xavier Davenport and Jeremiah Toney added 10 points apiece.

HSU hosts Arkansas-Monticello today at 4 p.m. Harding hosts SAU.

Wonder Boys 66, Muleriders 59

RUSSELLVILLE -- After a two-game losing streak, the Wonder Boys (3-2, 1-2 GAC) picked things back up to take the win over the Muleriders (3-1, 3-1) Thursday at Tucker Coliseum.

With Arkansas Tech taking an early 10-0 lead, SAU finally secured its presence on the scoreboard with 15:02 on the clock. The Wonder Boys widened the spread for a 35-20 lead at halftime.

With a 5-0 run at the start of the second half, the Wonder Boys pushed out to a 20-point advantage. SAU couldn't find a way to battle back as Arkansas Tech maintaned a comfortable edge for the rest of the game.

CeJay Mann led the Wonder Boys with 17 points, four assists and a steal. Tony Hall followed with 11 points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals.

For the Muleriders, Jalen Brooks finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Devante Brooks tallied 17 points, 12 boards, a steal and an assist.

Arkansas Tech travels to Henderson Thursday at 7:30 p.m. SAU travels to Harding today at 4 p.m.

COLLEGE WOMEN

Lady Bisons 92, Reddies 73

SEARCY -- Outscoring HSU (1-2, 1-2 GAC) in the third quarter 22-12, the Lady Bisons (1-2, 1-2) rolled past the Reddies for Harding head coach Tim Kirby's 300th win Thursday at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

With an eight-point advantage at the end of the first quarter, Harding extended its lead slightly to 51-41 at intermission. Even though HSU opened second half scoring with a 3-pointer, the Lady Bisons set out on a 20-3 stretch and secured a lead of 24 when sophomore guard Kylee Coulter drained a trey with 2:53 left in the period.

The hosts led 73-53 heading into the final quarter.

Kennedy Cooper paced Harding with a season high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Carissa Caples finished with 16 points and five assists, Sage Hawley added 14 points and 11 boards and Lexi Davis had 11 points including three 3-pointers.

Ashley Farrar led HSU with 23 points, four boards and a steal. Sonni Martin added 13 points, three boards and three assists.

Golden Suns 115, Muleriders 94

RUSSELLVILLE -- Ashlei Lopez led the Golden Suns with 23 points to improve to a 5-0 overall record Thursday at Tucker Coliseum.

With an eight-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, the Muleriders (1-2, 1-2 GAC) slowly chipped away at the Golden Suns' lead to pull within 55-49 at halftime. Arkansas Tech's momentum flared in the second half, outscoring SAU 27-19 in the third quarter and 33-26 in the fourth, respectively.

The combined 209 points is the second highest in GAC history, only the fourth to exceed 200 points as the 115 that the Golden Suns (5-0, 2-0) dished out is tied for the fourth most points in a game in the program's history.

Jalei Oglesby put up 22 points, two rebounds, a steal, a block and an assist for Arkansas Tech. Hannah Villines tallied 20 points, 10 boards, three assist and two steals, Kaley Shipman finished with 19 points, four rebounds, seven assists and a block and Bianca Blades added 16 points, 13 boards and a block.

Kenzie Ezekiel paced the Muleriders with 17 points, a rebound and an assist. Hot Springs grad Ariana Guinn came away with 14 points, four boards, four assists and a steal, and Kylie Warren had 11 points, five boards, two assists, two block and a steal.

Arkansas Tech does not have a game until Jan. 25 when it travels to Harding. SAU travels to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game.
