Gene Humphreys, age 93, completed his earthly assignment and began his heavenly one on Jan. 14, 2021.

Gene was born and lived on the family farm in Hollis his entire life except for a brief time to work in Oregon and another time to serve in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany at the end of World War II and shared his disbelief at hearing the war was over. He loved nature and everything in it. The cattle and other animals on the farm knew his voice and gentle nature, so they followed him around the farm unafraid. He made many lifelong friends during his career in the Forestry Department of Dierks, then Weyerhaeuser.

Gene was an avid reader and loved to tell stories. He instilled his love and passion for fishing into each grandchild, spending countless hours on the South Fouche River or his many favorite fishing holes teaching them just how it was supposed to be done.

Gene is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Annie Moss Humphreys; wife of 67 years, Ann Moore Humphreys; four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by son, Darrel Humphreys (Joan); daughter, Peggy Stanley (Larry); grandchildren, Stacey Reynolds (Joe), Clay Stanley (Sydney), Marc Stanley (Aimee); and great-grandsons, Grayson Faught and Cooper Rink; bonus grandchildren, Brady Bean, Justin Bean (Ashley) and Tori Faught Rink (Brian).

Burial will be in the Hawks Cemetery at Hollis.

Honorary pallbearers are Don Dale, Richard Davis, Brian Faught, Herbert Jones, Steve Jones, Larry Mallette, Harold McAlpine, Gary Waddle, John Wainscott, Larry Woods and his lifelong friends/family at Hollis.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Montgomery County Nursing Home for their kindness and special care of our father/grandfather.

Due to COVID, the burial will be private.
