Dan Thomas McDonald passed away on Jan. 13, 2021, in Hot Springs, Ark.

If you knew Dan, you knew he loved to hunt and fish and regale everyone with stories about both. His favorite place to be was his deer camp. A perfect day would be for Dan to be hunting with one of his grandchildren. He taught hunters' education and enjoyed teaching.

Dan also was an avid reader, especially enjoying military history and John Grisham novels. Dan prided himself on being a good cook, sharing deer jerky, fish fries and wild turkeys. He even won a chili cooking contest at Saline Memorial Hospital with his roadkill chili. He graduated from Benton High School in 1966. He then attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., graduating in 1969. He excelled in skeet shooting, being awarded Skeet Shooting Champion of Missouri in 1967.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Romie and Kathlyn McDonald of Benton.

He is survived by his daughter, Jaime Keys and her husband, William, and two grandsons, Grayson and Grant, another daughter, Kristin M. Riggan, and her husband, Casey, and their two children, Declan and Randi, and one sister, Kathy McConnell.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Roller-Alcoa, 6700 Alcoa Road in Benton.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to SOZO Recovery Center at 243 Nathan Terrace, Jessieville, AR 71949.
