Lions step up in 2nd half, rout Dover

JESSIEVILLE -- Senior Jarrett Davis and sophomore Noah Futch combined for 59 points to lead Jessieville in a 67-40 rout over Dover Friday night at Jessieville Sports Arena.

After a close first half that saw the Pirates (4-9, 1-7 3A-5) control much of the momentum, the Lions (9-7, 5-4) ramped up the intensity in the third quarter. After a bucket from Jarrett Davis followed shortly after by a 3-pointer to start the half, Futch got hot from behind the arc to drain three straight 3-pointers as the Lions hit an 11-0 run going into the final 8 minutes with a 41-30 lead.

"Well, I didn't think that we just didn't execute in the first half," said Jessieville head coach Jared White after the game. "We got a lot of good looks, and they didn't go in necessarily. And we've got a couple of kids -- Noah, Jarrett, those guys -- they can get hot and make them in bunches. And it just seemed like we found them. After they made one we found them again, and there they go; they see another one go in and just built confidence. But really, I think the difference was our pressure in the second half in spurts where we kind of caught them off-guard. I think we closed the third quarter on an 11-nothing run or something like that. So I'm very proud of the effort, and I'm glad to get a win."

Dover shot back in the fourth with junior Landon Parker nailing a 3-pointer followed by another from sophomore Cody Vickers. Jarrett Davis and Futch continued to hit, pushing Jessieville's lead to 14 halfway through the quarter.

The Pirates sought to make a run as senior forward Caden Frazier grabbed a rebound and dished out to sophomore Caleb Krentz, but the Lions continued to answer each Dover push with a basket as Charlie Davis capped the victory with a layup.

"Got to give Jessieville credit," said Dover head coach Andrew Vire. "They started making shots and then they got a lead and our guys just ... they stopped competing. That's the end of it. Jessieville's a good team and they just beat us."

Jarrett Davis banked a shot in off the glass before Parker answered on the other end with a basket off the drive. Play went back and forth with junior Robbie Flowers adding several buckets for Dover. The Pirates ended the opening frame with a 4-0 run from junior Zeke Stanek to give the Pirates a 15-14 edge.

Dover opened the second frame with a pair of buckets before Futch hit the first two of his six trey. Vickers answered with a 3-pointer of his own in the closing seconds to keep the Pirates on top 22-21 at the break.

Davis led the Lions with 34 points, eight rebounds and five steals, Futch tallied 25 points, three steals and two rebounds, sophomore Luke Baker and junior Noah Zetts each added 3 points on the night with Baker adding four rebounds, two steals and an assist and Zetts adding two rebounds. Charlie Davis added 2 points, three rebounds and one asssist.

Vickers and Frazier led the Pirates with 8 points apiece with Frazier adding six rebounds and an assist and Vickers tacking on two rebounds with an assist. Krentz had 7 points, five rebounds, a block and an assist, Stanek had 6 points, one steal and one rebound, Flowers had 5 points, three rebounds and an assist, Parker had 5 points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist, and Gavin Reichert finished with 3 points.

Jessieville heads to Perryville on Monday while Dover will host Mayflower on Tuesday.
