The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission now has three open seats to fill after one commissioner resigned this month due to moving out of state.

Commissioner Paul Lynch, the owner of State & Pride Provisions Company, who sat in Position 3 on the commission, resigned this month to move to Colorado, Visit Hot Springs said Monday.

Position 3 must be held by the owner or manager of a tourism business, hotel or motel, or a restaurant located within the Hot Springs city limits.

The appointment would expire on Oct. 31, 2023, when Lynch's term would have ended, according to Leysa Lowery, HR director for Visit Hot Springs.

Also open are Position 5, currently held by Wayne Smith, the general manager of Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort, and Position 7, held by Elizabeth Farris, whose terms are expiring.

Both appointments to Position 5 and Position 7 are four-year terms.

Position 5 must be filled by the owner or manager of a hotel or motel, or a restaurant within the city limits.

Position 7 is an at-large position.

All applicants must be "qualified electors within the city limits of Hot Springs," according to Visit Hot Springs.

Applications for all three positions will be accepted until noon Aug. 9. Applications are available via email. Call Lowery at 321-4378 or email [email protected] for more information.

According to Lowery, as of Tuesday neither Smith nor Farris had reapplied for their positions.

The appointments are decided by the ad commission but must be ratified by the Hot Springs Board of Directors.

The seven-member commission administers the collection and expenditure of the city's 3% tax on prepared food and lodging for the purpose of promoting Hot Springs. The commission also oversees the operation of the Hot Springs Convention Center, Bank OZK Arena, the Northwoods Trails System and the Majestic Park baseball complex, which is currently under construction, along with sponsoring citywide special events, such as the World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade and the annual Spa-Con.
