Nadiya J. Valrie, a Hot Springs World Class High School 2021 honor graduate, was recently named the first recipient of the Shondra J. Chatman Memorial Scholarship by Dr. A. Chatman Ministries.

The scholarship is named in memory of the daughter of Pastor Audrey and First Gentleman Lavon Chatman Sr., who died on Dec. 6, 2019. "Her life to nurture, love and give of oneself will allow promising high school graduates to make heartfelt decisions to never give up on themselves and their future endeavors along with demonstrating a significant commitment of servanthood and upholding a high standard of conduct. The parents managed to take the most difficult and painful loss of their daughter to create a lasting legacy for her through a memorial scholarship that will touch the lives of high school graduates and the Hot Springs community," a news release said.

Valrie is the daughter of Lavert and Victoria Valrie.
