HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- At the June 16 meeting of the HSV Property Owners Association Board of Directors, Chairman JoAnne Corry issued a proclamation declaring the month of August to be Arkansas Heritage Month in Hot Springs Village.

The recognition supports the efforts of the HSV Lifelong Learning Institute for sponsoring the inaugural Arkansas Heritage Festival, which will be at the Ponce de Leon complex in Hot Springs Village on Aug. 27 and 28. The event is free and open to the public.

The Arkansas Heritage Festival is co-sponsored by the Lifelong Learning Institute and the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association through a grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage. It will highlight Arkansas history, entertainment, and culture. Sites will include Woodlands Auditorium, where 12 popular speakers will present a variety of entertaining programs during the two-day event, a news release said.

"We all live in Arkansas, even though many of us have come from someplace else. We should always be aware of Arkansas heritage in its many forms," Corry said in the release.

"On behalf of the committee that is working hard to put together the first annual Arkansas Heritage Festival, we are very excited that it will be right here in Hot Springs Village," Wilson said in the release.

Part of the Proclamation read: "Whereas it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people, now therefore I, JoAnn Corry, chairman of the Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association Board of Directors, do hereby proclaim the month of August to be Arkansas Heritage Month In Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and call upon our members to join their fellow citizens in recognizing and participating in this special observance."
