OPINION

Keep up the fight

Dear editor:

Re: "Opinionated headline," by Mike Williams.

Hey Mike,

Let me cut to the chase here. I did not read the specific piece you are referring to, but it is highly unlikely that anyone at The Sentinel-Record had anything to do with it. The AP (Associated Press) is a behemoth of a news organization. One of the three largest in the world. They are a nonprofit news media company based in NYC. It is a cooperative, so it is owned by all the newspapers, radio and TV stations that share its news stories.

The organization states that they are dedicated to factual and unbiased reporting. That is a great mantra to have, but do you believe that, especially when it comes to politics? I don't. The organization may want to be unbiased, but do you think all these folks who write these stories are also unbiased? The bias is obvious in their articles. How many times have you seen the word "baseless" printed in their offerings when they are speaking of ex-President Trump's reference to voter fraud? Let me answer that. A lot. And if you haven't been living under a rock, you know that, that narrative is all these writers want us to believe, because it's what they believe, it's what they choose to believe.

These are troubling times. Past news has been about how other countries meddled in our elections. How about how our own news meddles in our elections? They are also complicit, as is big tech. Keep up the fight, keep up the awareness and don't let anyone cancel you. You are right about Arkansas being more tuned in than much of this country. Arkansas continues to be a red state, and here in Garland county, voters picked Donald Trump, and the Republican Party, by more than two to one. Don't count him out, he may yet serve a second term.

Kudos for storm response

Dear editor:

Kudos to our city manager, Bill Burrough, his administrative staff, his hourly staff, and everybody else responsible for us not having to deal with the issues and challenges our neighbors in Texas had to go through recently. Wow, what a feat, especially since we broke so many records for snow amounts, days of below-freezing temperatures, etc. We, the general public, weren't ready for this, but the city team sure was! They were not only ready, they responded in a very quick and smart way to the unexpected.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Kudos!
