Hot Springs YMCA Seals compete in pair of meets

Swimmers from the Hot Springs YMCA Seals swim team competed in swim meets in Pine Bluff on Jan. 8 and Springdale on Feb. 8.

At the Pine Bluff meet, Gwen Burda won the 25-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard individual medley, finishing second in the 25-yard butterfly and third in both the 25-yard freestyle and backstroke in the 8 and under division.

Jonah Teague, in the 10 and under boys, won the 25-yard backstroke and butterfly while placing second in the 25-yard freestyle.

In the 11 to 12 year old boys, Tavin Leggate placed third in the 100-yard butterfly, and Will Shafto placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and eighth in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the 13 and over girls, Addison Walls finished fourth in the 50-yard backstroke and butterfly and placed sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke.

In the 13 and over boys, Ethan Smith placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard IM, and 500-yard freestyle. He placed third in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle, fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a personal best and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Aidan Qualls placed third in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM, fourth in the 200-yard backstroke and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and butterfly. Elijah Johnston placed first in the 25-yard butterfly, second in the 25-yard freestyle and fourth in the 50-yard breast stroke.

At the Springdale event, Jack Roberts participated in the 10 and under divison, winning the 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard IM while placing third in the 100-yard freestyle.

In the 11 to 12 year old girls, Clara McCarley placed third in the 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard breast stroke and 100-yard IM. She placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, sixth in the 200-yard IM, seventh in the 50-yard freestyle and eighth in the 100-yard backstroke. Natalie Welch placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and eighth in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the 11 to 12 year old boys, Cannon Ellis placed first in the 100-yard freestyle, second in the 50-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle, fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle, and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.

For the 15 and over boys, Aidan Qualls placed first in the 200-yard IM, second in the 200-yard backstroke, third in the 100-yard backstroke with a personal best, and fourth in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.

Caleb Ellis won the 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard IM, second in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM, fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.
