Bonnerdale man killed in collision on Highway 70

A Bonnerdale man died from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 70 at North Pearcy Road Thursday afternoon, according to an Arkansas Department of Public Safety report.

Jimmy Barnard Sr., 76, driving a 2004 Honda CRV, was leaving a parking lot on the south side of Highway 70 shortly before 4 p.m. attempting to cross over the highway to North Pearcy Road.

As he crossed the highway, he drove into the path of a 2013 Mack semi that was westbound on Highway 70. The front end of the semi collided with the passenger side of the Honda in the westbound lane.

Barnard was injured and transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs where he later died. The report notes conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wreck which was investigated by Arkansas State Police.

The driver of the semi, who was not injured, was not identified in the report.
