Occasionally, there may be more household waste than what will fit in a receptacle. After notifying the Hot Springs Solid Waste Department, the first step is to seal the items in plastic trash bags -- do not place items into boxes or other similar containers. Once everything is secured, place the items next to the receptacle the night before or the morning of collection day.

Solid waste receptacles should never be overfilled to the point the lid will not close properly. The closed lid helps control litter and odors, and also prevents spillage when collected by the Solid Waste vehicles.

If there is routinely more household waste than what can fit into a Solid Waste receptacle, call the Hot Springs Solid Waste Department at 501-321-6911 to request an additional receptacle.

Last week, the Earth Angels of Hot Springs recycled:

217 pounds -- Aluminum cans.

71,480 pounds -- Commercial cardboard.

696 pounds -- Corrugated cardboard.

195 pounds -- Newspaper.

920 pounds -- Plastic grade No. 1 and No. 2.

28,020 pounds -- Yard waste and C.A.P.S.

Last week, a total of 50.76 tons of recyclable materials were kept out of the landfill.
