After the coronavirus forced Jessieville to cancel last week's game against Mount Ida, the Lions return to the field against Dierks tonight.

Jessieville athletic director Jamie Saveall confirmed Thursday that tonight's game against the Outlaws will be played.

Jessieiville (0-1) is led by senior quarterback Carson Hair who went 16 for 24 for 174 yards through the air in the Lions' 35-14 season opening loss to Harmony Grove. Hair also contributed to Jessieville's running game, registering 24 carries for 92 yards and one touchdown.

The senior quarterback targeted multiple different receivers in the opener as a total of six different receivers accounted for catches on the night. Sophomore Tayt Mounts led the team with 68 receiving yards on four catches.

Illustrating his multisport prowess, sophomore Broc Mayr, who was The Sentinel-Record's 2021 All-Garland County Baseball Player of the Year, carried the ball nine times for 36 yards and a touchdown against Harmony Grove.

Although the cancelation against Mount Ida could have given Jessieville time to rest and recover after the Harmony Grove matchup, it will be interesting to see if the Lions can find their rhythm after COVID-19 unexpectedly affected their schedule. Jessieville head coach TJ Burk was unavailable for comment at press time.

A Class 2A school, Dierks (0-2) fell to a pair of Class 3A schools in Bismarck and Horatio earlier this season. While the Outlaws fell 48-7 to Bismarck in Week 0, they lost a close one to Horatio 25-21 on Sept. 3.

Jessieville and Dierks are two non-conference opponents that have grown pretty familiar over the past few years, and last season, the Outlaws took down the Lions 46-28 during a very successful year for Dierks.

Hair was able to throw for 172 yards on 13 completions for two touchdowns while also throwing an interception last season against the Outlaws.

In the two seasons before last year, the Lions came away with wins, so the matchup is one that can go either way once the teams hit the field.

Kickoff at Don Phillips Field is set for 7 p.m.
