Garland County hosted a short ceremony on the front lawn of the Garland County Court House on Saturday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

A bell tolled as a timeline that included the names of Arkansans who were killed was read aloud of the day's tragic events, from the planes striking the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, to Flight 93's crash in Pennsylvania.

County Judge Darryl Mahoney, who led the ceremony, noted that while "we must never forget, many in our country have."

"Not only do we need to remember today, but we need to remember tomorrow. Tomorrow was the day that our country was more united than it's ever been in its history. And, we need that back, now more than ever. Because make no mistake: Although it's not blatant in your eyes, our country is under attack today. It's a covert operation that intends to undermine our way of life, our religion, and our lives," Mahoney said.

"Remember: be vigilant, and do all you can to support the patriotism of the United States of America."
