The Knights of Columbus Council 6419 in Hot Springs hosted its Fifth Annual Garland County Arkansas 1st Responders Celebration on Friday, Sept. 10.

The celebrated guests included the Hot Springs Police Department, Garland County Sheriff's Office, and EMT personnel. Included were the doctors and nurses from all three local hospitals who have "worked tirelessly this past year to treat and cure Garland County patients," a news release said.

The site of the celebration was St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church, 100 Central Ave. The event included a breakfast buffet and carryout meals from 6-10 a.m. for 1,200 people.

A nondenominational memorial service was held in the church from 7:30-8 a.m. and was led by Father George Sanders of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. It honored the victims and their families from 9/11.

"The event that honored and blessed our local responders was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hot Springs," the release said.
