Here we are already. Part three of a series all about what the Garland County Library offers the community. What the library offers to you. This month, I'll be talking about some of the special items you can now borrow from the library.

Yes, you can borrow books -- new releases, bestsellers, kids picture books and easy readers, cookbooks, biographies, hundreds of James Pattersons, large print books, books on CD, books on MP3 playaway device, travel guides, magazines, and on and on and on.

We have movies on DVD and Blu-ray. Kids films, documentaries, HBO full series, BBC miniseries, cult classics, how-to videos, Hallmark movies, blockbusters, and more.

Books and movies are pretty run-of-the-mill for libraries. But here's where it gets interesting. We also have:

• Cake pans, from circles and rectangles to shaped pans like Elsa and a baby bottle.

• Baking accessories.

• Halloween costumes for kids and teens (seasonal).

• Fishing poles, thanks to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

• Seeds from our Seed Library.

• Wi-Fi hot spots -- you can literally borrow the internet with a hot spot.

• Microscopes.

• Telescopes.

• Jigsaw puzzles (honor borrows -- not searchable in our catalog).

• Board games, from checkers to Settlers of Catan.

• Mid-America Science Museum pass -- good for a family of five to take a free trip to the museum.

• Garvan Woodland Gardens pass -- good for a family of five to tour the gardens for free.

You can search for most of these items in our online catalog at http://www.catalog.gclibrary.com. From there, you can log in with your library card number and PIN, and place items on hold. Don't know your PIN or need your card number? Just give us a call at 501-623-4161 or email [email protected].

When your holds are available, we'll notify you and you can pick up in the building, through curbside pickup, or request free home delivery by emailing [email protected].

Maybe you're more of a book collector than a book borrower? Check out our used book sale room. The Friends of the Garland County Library, a nonprofit support organization, accepts donations and sells items for bargain prices. Visit their store located in the back right corner of the library during library operating hours. The sale room is restocked on Mondays and Thursdays, in case you want first dibs or if you have some spare time to volunteer with the Friends.

Out of space for this month. Next installment I'll gush about library programming. I might be biased, but I think are programs are pretty great and I'll explain why next month.
