St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 228 Spring St., will have a "Blessing of the Backpacks" at the 10 a.m. Sunday service. All students are welcome to bring their backpacks for a special blessing as they begin a new year of learning and growth. Teachers and school personnel will also be recognized and blessed. Immediately following the service, a reception will take place in the Parish Hall to honor St. Luke's departing rector, Father Robert Odom. His new calling will take him to All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth to serve as a chaplain.
