JESSIEVILLE -- A masked man in a pickup truck reportedly attempted to steal an ATM from a Jessieville convenience store late Monday by pulling it out with a chain, but was unsuccessful, according to a Garland County sheriff's incident report.

At around 10:10 p.m., sheriff's Deputy Chandler Overton responded to the Citgo, 6003 Highway 7 north, because the alarm was going off. He found the front door broken, so he waited for backup to arrive.

Deputy Susan Musler arrived to assist and the two deputies cleared the building, discovering that both glass front doors had been shattered with the metal frames bent. An ATM located just inside the doors also appeared to be damaged.

The owner, 44, arrived at the scene and confirmed the only thing that seemed to have been tampered with was the ATM.

She allowed Overton and Sgt. Jon Lane to review the store's security video, which reportedly showed an older model white Ford pickup truck back through the front doors of the store. A passenger, who was wearing a mask, jumped out and wrapped a chain around the ATM.

The truck then attempted to pull the ATM through the doors, but the chain "slipped off." The truck then fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies and left in an unknown direction.

The incident was still under investigation Tuesday.
