A Judsonia man and Little Rock woman were arrested Thursday night on felony and misdemeanor charges after they were allegedly caught in the act of breaking into a local storage unit.

Joshua Loyes Laymance, 33, of Judsonia and Katharine Elena Satterfield, 38, of Little Rock, were both taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. Thursday and each charged with a felony count of breaking or entering, punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of first-degree criminal mischief, punishable by up to one year in jail.

They were each being held on a $3,500 bond and were set to appear Friday in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, Satterfield is classified as a habitual offender with two to three prior felony convictions and has a felony possession of a controlled substance, meth, charge pending in Faulkner County from a June 13, 2021, arrest. Laymance was arrested on Nov. 25, 2020, in Pulaski County on felony charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and criminal mischief and is set to stand trial on April 6, 2022.

According to the probable cause affidavits on Thursday's arrests, shortly after 7 p.m., Hot Springs police Officer 1st Class Kevin Moore responded to Red Dot Storage, 415 Golf Links Road, regarding a possible break-in.

A male witness told Moore he arrived at the storage units and saw a white female, later identified as Satterfield, inside a white SUV with a trailer and saw a white male, later identified as Laymance, standing inside the fenced-in area, but the gate was not open.

Moore located Satterfield standing outside a GMC Envoy with a homemade trailer attached and she reportedly told him she and her ex-boyfriend had a storage unit together and she was there to retrieve her belongings.

She claimed she was on the account for the storage unit, but she didn't have the gate code to access the units or a key to the unit because her ex-boyfriend would not give them to her. She said a friend, Laymance, was with her and was still inside the unit.

At that time, Officer 1st Class Cash Murray and Officer Alex Tobar checked on the unit and found that it was open, with the lock cut off by a tool, and located Laymance inside. They noted there were several items that had been removed from the unit and placed outside.

Moore contacted the manager for Red Dot who checked the account for the unit and determined neither Satterfield or Laymance was listed on it.

After further investigation, Satterfield reportedly admitted she had entered the fenced-in area by squeezing between the gate and post and she used a pair of bolt cutters to remove the lock on the unit and gain entry.

Officers were unable to make contact with the owner of the unit, but based on neither suspect being listed on the account they took both of them into custody.
