Schmitt competes at Indianapolis swim meet

INDIANAPOLIS -- Lake Hamilton sixth-grader Aubrey Schmitt recently competed in the USA-Carmel Swim Club Winter Invitational at Indiana University Natatorium.

The 12-year-old competed in the 11-12 year old female division, putting up a time of 19:48.28 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She finished the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.80, the 50-yard freestyle in 27.85 seconds, and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:31.67.

Schmitt also had five lifetime best performances in the 500-yard freestyle (5:47.05), 100-yard freestyle (59.00 seconds), 100-yard breaststroke, (1:18.94), 100-yard butterfly (1:05.65), and 50-yard butterfly (29.78 seconds).

Over 1,000 swimmers from 10 states competed at the meet.

JUNIOR RAMS ROUT HOPE

HOPE -- Lakeside dominated Hope in the junior Rams' 50-18 victory over the junior Bobcats Monday.

Sloan Hayes led Lakeside with 10 points, and Ty Braziel and Maddex Ritter each scored eight for the junior Rams.

Griffin Ralph added six points, and Luke Lumsden and Sam Trusty both tallied four for Lakeside. Ben Vincent rounded out the scoring for the junior Rams with two points.

Lakeside improved to 15-5 on the season with the victory. The junior Rams travel to Camden Fairview Thursday.

JUNIOR WOLVES DOWN CABOT SOUTH

PEARCY – Behind a 16-point performance from Cameron Hale, Lake Hamilton beat Cabot South 58-25 Monday night.

Zane Pennington was right behind Hale with 15 points, and LaBraun Christon scored 10 for the junior Wolves.

Hayden Barton tallied seven points, Caleb Rouse scored six and Zack Dancause and Aaron Abernathy each added two points for Lake Hamilton.

NIGHTHAWKS PICK UP TWO SWEEPS

National Park College's men's and women's basketball teams both picked up wins against Williams Baptist University's junior varsity teams and South Arkansas Community College.

The Nighthawk men (15-5, 3-1) downed Williams Baptist 112-79, and started the first half with a quick 10 points from JoQuarius Valrie.

National Park took a double-digit early on in the game and never looked back during the contest.

The Nighthawks went into halftime with a 57-39 lead, and Rodrique Massenat closed out the game with a 10-point second half for National park.

Sayvon Traylor led the Nighthawks with 18 points, Valrie scored 17 and Garett Powell tallied 15 points for National Park. Massenat put in a 12-point performance.

The Nighthawk women (7-11, 1-3) earned a 65-52 win over Williams Baptist.

National Park only led by one point at intermission but came to life in the second half.

During the second half, Essieana Bennett became the Nighthawks' all-time rebounds leader, and National Park allowed just one field goal in the fourth quarter.

Amaya Coakley and Kayla Richardson led the Nighthawks with 14 points each, Jhyla Calvin tallied 12 and India Atkins scored 11 points for National Park.

Despite a slow start from the floor and turnovers early, the National Park men beat South Arkansas 100-64 to pick up the Nighthawks' third NCJAA Region II win of the season.

Jaylen O'Conner put in a solid first-half performance for the Nighthawks, and National Park took a 40-30 lead into the break.

The Nighthawks allowed just two points in the first seven minutes of the second half and jumped out to a comfortable advantage.

O'Conner led National Park with 22 points, Kam Vick scored 18 and Massenat added 14 points. Valrie also put in a double-digit performance with 12 points for the Nighthawks.

The National Park women registered their first NJCAA Region II win of the season with a 49-43 victory over South Arkansas.

The Nighthawks outscored South Arkansas 12-7 in the first 10 minutes of the game and took a slender 20-18 lead into half time.

Richardson and Coakley each played major roles in seeing out the win in the second half, and National Park put the game to bed at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Richardson and Coakley both earned double-doubles in the win. Richardson led National Park with 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Coakley added 16 points and tallied 10 boards.
