City, county offices closed for July 4 holiday

All city offices, except public safety and the airport, and all Garland County offices and departments will be closed Monday for the Independence Day holiday.

The city's residential sanitation routes will run one day behind schedule. Commercial sanitation routes will run as scheduled. The compost facility and the Garland County Landfill will be closed, but house-to-house collection service in the county will continue as scheduled.

Transportation Depot, including the Intracity Transit buses and paratransit services, will be closed.

Drainage work to close parts of Thornton Ferry

Thornton Ferry Road will be closed to through traffic from Albert Pike Road to West Pine Road starting Wednesday for approximately eight weeks to excavate for new drainage and a retaining wall, Garland County Judge Darryl Mahoney said in a news release.

"Please seek an alternate route through West Pine," he said.

Free asphalt regrind available through July

The free asphalt regrind that has been available to the public for pickup in June will continue through July, while supplies last, from 7:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays through Thursdays, at 443 Leawood St.

The Hot Springs Street Division will load the material into appropriate vehicles, preferably dump trucks or trailers with solid sides at least 1-foot in height and a solid, full-length floor. Material will not be loaded into pickup truck beds. All loads must be tarped. The city will not be responsible for any damage due to the loading process, a news release said.
