Construction to widen Albert Pike Road (Highway 270 west) to five lanes will reduce Mountain Pine Road (Highway 227) to two lanes up to Frona Lane beginning Tuesday and continuing through the end of the month, the Arkansas Department of Transportation says.

Weather permitting, crews will reduce Mountain Pine Road to two open lanes between Albert Pike and Frona Lane, keeping a single lane open in either direction, starting Tuesday, a news release said.

Two lanes of southbound traffic will be restored as traffic approaches the Albert Pike-Mountain Pine Road intersection. The work is expected to last through Saturday, July 30.

"These lane closures will enable crews to continue constructing new pavement to realign Highway 227 with Highway 270. After the new pavement is tied to existing Highway 227, traffic will be shifted east onto the new section of road," the release said.

Traffic will be controlled with signage and message boards, construction barrels, and barriers. "The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone and watch for slower traffic speeds," it said.

The project is part of ArDOT's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 1.5 miles of Highway 270 to five lanes and bike lanes, extending generally from Fleetwood Drive to Mountain Pine Road.

The project, which according to ArDot's Connecting Arkansas website is around 20 percent completed, includes reconstructing the interchange of Albert Pike and Mountain Pine Road, and installing traffic signals on Albert Pike at Crystal Hill Road. Construction is estimated to be completed in late 2023.
