Elks from Hot Springs Lodge No. 380 provided their annual picnic for Arkadelphia Human Development Center clients, staff and families on June 3.
Thirty Elk members and spouses purchased, transported, prepared, grilled and served approximately 150 hamburgers and 150 hot dogs, along with condiments, chips, cookies and cool drinks to the group, a news release said.
The Arkansas State Elks Association also, along with paying for all the food, presented a check for over $4,000 to the center for use in projects that would otherwise not be possible, it said.
The five Human Development Centers in Arkansas receive financial and social support from the Arkansas Elks through their State Major Projects annually. Centers have used the donated funds to help build gazebos, walking trails, a wheelchair-sized swing, live bird aviaries, computer centers and recreation rooms, among other projects.
Elks raise money for the donations through collection of change in the ceramic "Piggy Banks" made by clients at the Arkadelphia Human Development Center, along with fundraising projects at the lodges throughout the year.
