The Republican Party of Garland County will hold its Biennial County Convention at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave.

The RPGC County Committee will certify the outcome of the May 24 Republican primary and the June 21 Republican primary runoff. The County Committee will also elect the state committeewoman and committeeman and elect delegates and alternates to the July 23 State Convention.

"This is an important meeting to attend for all Republicans in live in Garland County whether or not they are a member of the County Committee," Marcia Albaugh, RPGC chair, said in a news release.

The RPGC will hold its Grand Old Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday outside RPGC headquarters at 615 W. Grand Ave. Albaugh said successful state and local candidates in the primary will speak and free lunch will be provided.

"The elected leadership in Arkansas and Garland County will be available for everyone to meet and hear how they plan to improve our state and county," Albaugh said. "This is the first year we have held an event like this in many years. We hope to have many more in the upcoming years."

The public is welcome to attend both the convention and the picnic, Albaugh said. Admission is free.

Albaugh said prior to the Biennial County Convention, the RPGC will hold its regular County Committee meeting to complete old business, which would include voting on any new County Committee members. The County Convention will then be convened.

She said a new County Committee will be convened after the adjournment of the convention. During the new committee meeting, the election of the 4th District committeeman and committeewoman and the 4th District Committee members will be held.

Any County Committee members who need to renew their membership can do so from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to Thursday's meetings. A notarized affidavit must accompany a $50 filing fee in order to renew. For more information, call RPGC Secretary Jim Keary at 501-786-9206 or email [email protected]
