A local man and woman in a self-described "on-again, off-again" relationship were each arrested on felony battery charges late Thursday after allegedly attacking each other during an altercation at their residence.

Jessica Nicole Ferguson, 35, and Christopher Earl Hohn, 39, who list an address of 109 Penn St., were taken into custody at their residence around 9 p.m. and each charged with a felony count of third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Ferguson was also charged with a misdemeanor count of violation of a no-contact order that Hohn had issued against her and Hohn was also charged with two misdemeanor warrants for third-degree domestic battery stemming from an incident on June 18. Both remained in custody Monday on zero bonds and are set to appear July 11 in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, Hohn was previously convicted on Nov. 12, 2013, of a felony count of theft by receiving and sentenced to three years in prison. Ferguson lists no prior felony history but pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of third-degree domestic battery on March 31 and was sentenced to 20 days in jail.

According to the probable cause affidavit on Thursday's incident, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Garland County sheriff's Cpl. Matthew Cogburn, Sgt. Greg Keller and Deputy J.T. Dodge all responded to a 911 hang-up call at the Penn Street residence.

Hohn was located on the front porch and Dodge noted he had "blood and cuts" on the left side of his face. Hohn stated his "on-again, off-again" girlfriend, identified as Ferguson, had attacked him and struck him in the face with a chain.

Dodge spoke to Hohn's father, 71, who stated he saw Ferguson on top of Hohn and she had a "dog chain wrapped around her hand." A female witness, 26, at the scene also stated she saw Ferguson grab a chain, wrap it around her hand and then strike Hohn with it while also kicking him.

Cogburn had located Ferguson sitting in the driveway and she said her "on-again, off-again" boyfriend, identified as Hohn, had just "beat her about the head and face" and was hiding in the house.

Cogburn noted Ferguson had a small abrasion on her chin and she was complaining of pain to her head.

Based on Hohn's injuries and his statement Ferguson was the aggressor and the "apparent injuries and complaint of pain" by Ferguson, both of them were arrested. A criminal history check showed Hohn was previously convicted of third-degree domestic battery on April 29, 2020, so the charge against him was also a felony.
