A local teen was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting Saturday evening on Ellison Road after he voluntarily came in for questioning about the incident, according to an affidavit obtained Tuesday afternoon.

Mathew Daniel Lynch, 18, who lists an East Strawberry Road address, was taken into custody around 1 p.m. at the Garland County Sheriff's Office and charged with first-degree battery, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Lynch, who lists no prior criminal history, was being held on a $150,000 bond and is set to appear June 6 in Garland County District Court although he will likely be arraigned before then if unable to post bond.

According to the affidavit, at around 5:51 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting with one person suffering a gunshot wound at 675 Ellison Road.

Deputies arrived and found Hayden Wilson, age not listed, in the driveway at 675 Ellison with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his neck.

Wilson was moved by LifeNet to a nearby landing zone where a Survival Flight 9 helicopter transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment, sheriff's Deputy Courtney Kizer, the department's public information officer, had previously told The Sentinel-Record.

On Tuesday, investigators received information Lynch was the individual who shot Wilson. Lynch was located and reportedly agreed to come to the sheriff's office to speak with investigators, the affidavit said.

Lynch was read his Miranda rights and reportedly "described walking around the neighborhood with his girlfriend, who is a relative of Wilson."

Lynch said Wilson "made a comment" to the female and Lynch states he "then pulled his gun and shot Wilson in the neck." He said then he and his girlfriend "continued walking."

Kizer previously said after finding Wilson "deputies quickly set up a perimeter and the scene was turned over to investigators who began processing the scene."

She said Monday the case was under investigation and anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's office.
