Fountain Lake moves to 8-man football for 2 seasons

The Fountain Lake School Board voted 5-0 Tuesday evening to approve the high school football's program to 8-man football for the upcoming 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The move affects just the high school program. The seventh-grade and junior high football programs will continue to play 11-man football for the two seasons.

While there had been talks about the program moving to 8-man after the Cobras struggled to have enough players to play games at times last season, rumors began to circulate wildly over the weekend after an image featuring the Cutter Morning Star football schedule was released showing the Eagles set to play the Cobras on Oct. 21.

With Fountain Lake opting out of 11-man football for the upcoming season, the 4A-7 conference will now have just six teams for the new cycle after Genoa Central opted out for 8-man as well.
