The December exhibit at Justus Fine Art Gallery will feature a selection of work by artists including Susan Baker Chambers, Matthew Hasty, Robyn Horn, gallery owner Dolores Justus, Sammy Peters, Tony Saladino, Sandra Sell, and Gene Sparlings.

The gallery will host a reception from 5-9 p.m. Friday as part of the monthly Gallery Walk in downtown Hot Springs. The exhibit will be on display through Dec. 31.

A series of paintings by Peters will be showcased in the exhibition. "Peters has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and overseas," the gallery said in a news release.

His work is included in numerous collections, including the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art in Little Rock; the McDonalds Corporation in London, England; The Venetian Resort Hotel in Macao, China; the estate of Winthrop Rockefeller, and the private collection of actor Gene Hackman.

"Peters describes his work as a living dichotomy, straddling the line between ambiguity and rhythm," the release said.

"My paintings have an intrinsic tempo within them that may not be obvious at first glance. I begin to sense the rhythm of the painting early in the work, and often that sense of rhythm asserts itself in devices like ladder shapes or stripes or polka dots or various marks," Peters said in the release. "The rhythm of the painting perpetuates itself and reasserts itself as I paint, and I just go along for the ride."

Works by Wise will also be featured in the exhibit. "Focusing on abstraction, his paintings emphasize geometric forms and playful lines that are both familiar and nonobjective," the release said.

Wise's work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions including a 2018 solo exhibit "40 Paintings at 40 Years of Age" at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa; "P is Works on Paper" 2012 solo exhibit at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia; "Abstract Arkansas" traveling group exhibition in 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013; "Price is Right" at the David Lusk Gallery in Memphis, Tennessee; "Arkansas Legacy Exhibition" at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Petit Jean; and "ArtSway +10" in Hampshire, England.

Wise earned a BA in Art History from Swarthmore College and an MFA in painting from the University of Iowa. He lives and works in Rogers.

A selection of Justus' "sensitive and expressive landscape paintings" will be included in the show.

"Drawing inspiration from the natural world, her work ranges from explorations in tonality and line, to saturated color and simplification of forms," the release said.

Justus' work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions for more than 30 years, along with a wide range of public and private collections including the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art, Little Rock; the University of Arkansas Health and Sciences Center, Fort Smith; the Alluvian Hotel, Greenville, Mississippi; Arkansas College of Health Education, Fort Smith; ArcBest, Corporate Headquarters, Fort Smith; and Sterling Bank, Fayetteville.
