Hot Springs police said Thursday that a 16-year-old male died as the result of gunshot wounds that he received Wednesday night during a shooting in the 600 block of School Street that also injured an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female.

Police said in a news release that officers responding to a shooting in the 600 block of School Street at 6:17 p.m. Wednesday located a 16-year-old male with gunshot wounds, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The male "succumbed to his injuries and later died," the release said.

The 18-old-male showed up at a local hospital with multiple non-life threatening gunshot wounds from the incident, and 17-year-old female was located in a vehicle in the 1200 block of Central Avenue where officers were flagged down by the driver while en route to a hospital, the release said.

"She was suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds and officers provided emergency aid while EMS responded. She was taken to a hospital for treatment," the release said.

"Due to the ongoing investigation, no other details of the incident are being released at this time."

Three people were reportedly shot Wednesday evening shortly before 6:30 p.m., Hot Springs police said.

Police were investigating whether the shootings occurred at one or multiple locations.

There was reportedly a shooting call on School Street with one person injured and shortly after there was an injured person reported at the Exxon, 1200 Central Ave., and another victim at a local hospital, HSPD Officer 1st Class Omar Cervantes, the department's public information officer, told The Sentinel-Record about an hour later.

All three victims had gunshot wounds, but none were fatal, Cervantes said, noting a "person of interest" in the incident was located and transported to the police department.

"It started on School Street with three possible victims and detectives are working two crime scenes," he said.
