LACEY, Wash. -- James Meredith, age 87, passed away on Jan. 20, 2023, at his home in Lacey, Wash.
James was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Buckville, Ark., to Mearl Meredith and Lola Hollowoa Meredith. He married the love of his life, Lula Bell (Gillham) Meredith, on Dec. 31, 1957.
James is survived by his daughter and husband, Debora and Steven Crews; son, Jim Meredith; daughter-in-law, Sheila Meredith; granddaughters and husbands, Mackenzie and Matt Williams, Morgan Meredith, Jacquelyn and Kyle Fagan, and Lauren and Stephen Mahnken. Three great-grandchildren, Emerson Lynn Mahnken, Arya Annalynn Fagan and namesake, Maverick James Mahnken. Arriving soon, Olivia Grace Williams.
He is survived by two sisters, Murel Maughn and Sherry Braughton; brother in-law, C.W. Gillham; plus countless nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula; parents, Mearl and Lola Meredith; brothers, Jerry Meredith and Jon Meredith.
James greatly missed his family and friends in Hot Springs and will finally make his way back home to Arkansas later this year, to his final resting place next to Lou.
