A Malvern teen was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges Sunday after he was allegedly caught driving a stolen car and then fled on foot from Hot Springs police.

Corbin Tylan Danner, 18, who lists a Malvern address, was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. and charged with a felony count of theft by receiving over $5,000, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of fleeing on foot.

Danner, who lists no prior criminal history, was being held on a $4,000 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 1 p.m., HSPD Officer 1st Class Jamie Ugartechea responded to the area of Lacy Street after Officer Nate Thomas spotted a vehicle matching the description of one reported stolen out of Malvern that made several turns in the area after he saw it.

Ugartechea saw the vehicle coming off Hobson Avenue "at a high rate of speed," but then lost sight of it. Officer Stephen Parrott then located it behind a building near Baxter and Beard streets and determined it was unoccupied.

Ugartechea remained in the area and was checking near Albert Pike Tire & Services, 100 Albert Pike Road, when he was advised a Black male was just seen jumping over a fence nearby. He spotted the male carrying a blue bag across his shoulder as he ran across Albert Pike, through Greenwood Cemetery and toward the back of a residence in the 500 block of Summer Street.

Ugartechea approached the residence and saw the same male attempting to jump over another fence. He pointed his firearm at him and ordered him to get on the ground and he complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

The bag he was carrying was found to contain a black Springfield 9-mm that was loaded with 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. A computer check on the gun came back clear. The male initially refused to give his name, but eventually identified himself as Danner.
