Winona Sue Polk, 79, of Hot Springs, passed away on May 31, 2023, in Hot Springs, Ark.

She was born prematurely at home in Hot Springs on Aug. 13, 1943, and was the middle child of Willa Mae (Worley) Jines and Marion Roy Jines, who predeceased her. She was a loving wife of 54 years to her late husband, John, and a kind and caring mother and grandmother to her only child, Susan, and her beloved granddaughters, Betsy and Mary Mae.

Sue is survived by daughter, Susan Van Dusen (Tim) of Sherwood, Ark.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Van Dusen of Rogers, Ark., and Mary Mae Van Dusen of Conway, Ark.; brother, Bobby Jines (Wyona) and sister, Norma Dunn (Richard), of Hot Springs; four nieces and four nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, John Polk; brother, Jimmy Jines; sister, Marion Loftin; and nephew, Jerry Jines.

She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas) and taught for a brief time in the Lake Hamilton School District. Beginning in the 1970s, she worked for many years at her brother's business, BW Studio.

Sue was an excellent cook and talented writer who composed hundreds of poems, stories, Sunday school lessons and children's sermons over her lifetime. She also was a committed viewer of "Days of Our Lives" for over 55 years and an avid reader who often completed more than one murder mystery per week.

As an active member of First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, she taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed fellowship with her close friends.

Pallbearers include Clyde Covington, Max White, Jeremy Jines, Lynn Polk, Blake Duca and Zak Brown.

Honorary pallbearers include the Saints and Sinners Sunday School Class and Jim Townley.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs.

Visitation will start at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, at First United Methodist Church, with a celebration of life to follow at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
