James Marlton "Mart" Thornton, age 82, of Hot Springs, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023.
He was born on May 22, 1940, in Bismarck, Ark., the son of James Monroe "Boss" Thornton and Lena Opal Thornton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri Thornton; his parents; one brother, Kenneth Dean Prince; and one nephew, Rickey Prince.
James was a member of Leonard Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his shop on appliances and other household items. He would often sell the repaired items in his JMT Used Appliances store. Before he owned his own store, he worked for Reynolds Aluminum.
He is survived by his son, Kevin (Cheryl) Thornton and his daughter, Kelly (Gary) Beckwith; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephew, Mike Prince (Deby); and niece, Cindy (Rick) Bratton.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in the Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, March 28, 2023, at Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Honorary pallbearers are Garrett Woods Senior Living Community and Dierksen Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UAMS Multiple Myeloma Center or to the American Heart Association.
