GOP chairman Hiland to address county members

Republican Party of Arkansas Chairman Cody Hiland will speak at Thursday's meeting of the Republican Party of Garland County.

The reception and meeting with Hiland will be held at 6 p.m. at the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave.

The public is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served. More information on the RPGC membership or voter registration can be found at http://www.TheRPGC.org or by calling 501-760-3600. The RPGC normally meets on the first Thursday of the month.

According to his biography on the Republican Party of Arkansas website, Hiland served as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas from Oct. 10, 2017, until Dec. 31, 2020. He was appointed to the position by former President Donald Trump and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. "During his first year as United States Attorney, the office produced an unprecedented 82% increase in criminal cases and ranked sixth in the nation in caseload per assistant United States attorney," the website says.

Prior to his appointment as U.S. attorney, Hiland was twice elected prosecuting attorney of the 20th Judicial District. He served on the executive board and Legislative Committee of the Arkansas Prosecuting Attorney's Association and was awarded the "Champion of Justice" award by the association in 2017. Hiland served as an aide to former Gov. Mike Huckabee, litigated utility rate cases before the Arkansas Public Service Commission, and was a partner at Hiland, Thomas & Cox PLLC.

A native of Bee Branch, Hiland attended Central Baptist College from 1990 through 1992, before receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Arkansas and his Juris Doctorate from the William H. Bowen School of Law in Little Rock.

He lives in Little Rock with his wife, Jana, and has four children.
