U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Lucas Amerson, a Class of 2019 graduate from Lake Hamilton High School, recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Amerson is the son of Chad and Christi Amerson of Hot Springs, and the brother of Nicholas Amerson, who graduated from the Academy in 2020.

The program at the U.S. Air Force Academy is guided by the Air Force's core values of "Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do." It includes character and leadership development, military training, academics, and athletics, a news release said.

In addition to numerous unique leadership experiences, a rigorous military training regimen, and intense physical conditioning, cadets take a broad range of academic courses with an extensive core curriculum in engineering, science, mathematics, social science, and humanities.

Upon the completion of the academy's four-year program, graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as 2nd lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force. Graduates are committed to serve a minimum of five years active duty and three years reserve duty following graduation.

Lucas received a Bachelor of Science in management and is currently serving as an Air Force Logistics Readiness Officer at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
