Hot Springs Music Club begins 2023-24 season today

Tom Bolton, president of the Hot Springs Music Club, recently announced the club's 2023-24 season.

The first free public performance will be at 3 p.m. today at Hope Church, 836 Shady Grove Road, and will feature performances by vocal duo Jolene Williams and Gay Strakshus, flautist Shelley Martin, pianist Lowella Cherry, and the HSMC Ladies Ensemble under Bolton's direction, with poetry readings by nonagenarian Mary Ellen White.

"Each of this season's programs shines a spotlight on different types of performers or musical genres," a news release said.

Today's program is "Spotlight on Members."

On Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, the program will be a "Spotlight on the Musical Stage."

On Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at The Atrium, the program will be a "Spotlight on American Music."

A "Spotlight on Hot Springs Musical Heritage" will be presented at 3 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Garland County Library in Williams Auditorium.

On March 3 at 3 p.m., the program "Spotlight on Sacred Music" will be presented at First Baptist Church.

"Spotlight on Jazz" will be featured at 3 p.m. April 14 at the Arlington Hotel.

And, on May 5 at 6 p.m., the program will be a "Spotlight on Honor Students" featuring student musicians.

"The mission of the Hot Springs Music Club is to showcase to its members and the community-at-large a diversity of music styles and genres. In addition, we raise money to provide scholarships to Garland County students pursuing music-related degrees in higher education," the release said.

"HSMC has been affiliated since its founding in 1951 with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs. Anyone interested in membership can access a membership form at www.hotspringsmusicclub.com."
